Watching videos online, I never got used to the delayed audio and poor lip syncing. I pretty much always had to use the aux cable. The latency is still just as bad if you leave it in stereo mode while using an aux cable to the primary speaker of the stereo link. The speaker also certainly feels nice in hand and looks pretty sweet too styling. It being fully water proof gives it bragging rights but it wasn't for me. Vava Voom This speaker has so much potential but unfortunately is plagued by its poor power management.
The speaker's volume constantly turns back down after use in order to "save power" but it just becomes annoying. This is actually designed in, on purpose! It produces a surprising amount of bass, but is almost too aggressive in its goals in doing so by producing sub-woofer level hz lower than 70hz where most bt speakers drop off but at such low volume levels, it doesn't provide any value but to vibrate the poor little speaker in to oblivion and probably unnecessarily drain the battery.
Seriously - the thing could double as a vibrator - it will turn your hand numb. The outstanding positive though is that it had virtually no discernible latency! You can watch your videos over BT and the lip sync'ing is just dead-on like an aux cable!
However, when you compare music listening against the Bose Soundlink Mini, it becomes very obvious how outclassed it was by it. It's also crazy they have such a bad review on Fakespot. They really have an outstanding product that wouldn't need fake reviews if they just tweaked those negatives out.
It has a dedicated driver just for bass an actual 2. So why didn't this win as my keeper? It was 3 things really: The form factor, the latency, and the proprietary charger. Having a tall and skinny speaker that's prone to falling over just wasn't practical as a portable speaker. The thing produces so much bass that it can literally walk itself off a shelf and commit suicide. The latency is just as bad as the JBLs so it required an aux cable and the proprietary charger just sucks, especially when you pack your speaker for a trip and forget it.
But if all you care for is pure sound quality for music listening, this is your speaker Some people say the bass is tuned too heavy but for me and my bass-heavy music, it was perfect. You can always use a EQ to lower the bass I suppose. Sony XB Basically, this was my attempt at seeing if the latest version of a Sony BT speaker of the same price range will have the amazing sound quality of the older SRS-X55, without all the drawbacks of it better form factor, micro USB charger, better audio latency.
It didn't. In fact I was surprised at how crappy this speaker sounded. The weak bass of a flip 4 but with the muted clarity of the Charge 3. What were they thinking? I did like the soft touch plastic housing but the LED lighting is pretty "meh". It's also probably one of the most unforgiving speakers for listening off-axis. You really have to be directly in-front of it for it to even sound half-way decent which makes it worse for backyard listening.
Nothing comes close to it at such a low price range. Being paired in stereo mode makes an exponential positive difference in sound quality.
You get such better sound stage when you can have two BT speakers paired in stereo mode 20 feet apart over any other BT speaker I can't stress this enough. You don't know what you're missing until you hear it compared to a single BT speaker, even against a good one.
But alone, if you only plan to buy the single Flip3 at 'normal price' not refurb price , the Soundcore Boost is a much, much better speaker. Honestly, I think the Anker Soundcore Boost is targeted against the Flip 4 but I think it beats the Charge 3 by way of being equal in bass but much cleaner highs and better sound stage. I sort of unfairly wrote Anker off after my experience with Anker SoundCore Sport XL but after I found it on display at Walmart and listened to it though I find listening to BT speakers retail displays never gives the full story , and then later heard "clavinetjunkie" thoughts on it look him up on YouTube - Great Bluetooth speaker reviewer , I decided to give it a chance and bought it at Walmart.
I was blown away! This is easily a JBL Flip 4 killer with much better bass, 'easy on the ears' highs and surprisingly good sound-stage. Mainly in how it doesn't compress the signal as much at higher volumes as the Bose does though does stop raising bass at the higher levels as all of them do however. The form factor is compact, and has a soft touch feel with a low key, all black styling that feels modern and functional.
OK so here's the deal: if you have read my whole review up to this point I don't blame you if you hadn't , you would have learned that the only BT speaker that had awesome latency over Bluetooth signal was the Bose Soundlink Mini II and the Vava Voom All the other speakers required the aux cable or the lip sync'ing will be quite off.
The Anker Soundcore Boost falls somewhere in the middle. By that I mean, the latency is just low enough to not be annoying when watching online videos, but it's not fast enough for video games like FPS games - When you click the mouse button to fire your gun, you'll notice the delay.
For that, you still need to use an aux cable and is indeed a compromise. I place the Soundcore Boost in front of my laptop and the compact form factor allows me to tilt it up pretty easily see picture. To conclude, I just love this speaker. Almost like as if there was a little piece of plastic loose and not securely glued down with resin, somewhere inside.
Not something you'd hear from a distance but up close. TBH, I think it bothered me more than it bothered her, lol! Regardless, we had to go back and exchange it. It's worth exchanging though - it really is an outstanding product if you have a good one! Latency is the same. Personally, I feel the Anker is more practical overall but you should at least check out the Doss for the incredible value.
The sound quality to price ratio may be the best on Amazon. Verified Purchase. This little speaker is quite the beast! Read on to learn how to help this little guy perform better than most speakers that cost double or triple Not enough to power a party, mind you, but it's great for a workspace, by the pool, etc.
It can really belt it out! CONS: - the sound quality out of the box is pretty average, but definitely above others in its price range. But as far as speakers go in general, it's pretty abysmal. Just like all little Bluetooth speakers. If you install the Soundcore app, you can set the EQ to several presets, or define your own. Out of the box, the default EQ is atrocious. Someone suggested the "flat" preset.
According to constructivist theory, learners are active participants in tasks in which they "construct" new knowledge derived from their prior experience. Learners also assume responsibility for their learning, and the teacher is a facilitator rather than a purveyor of knowledge.
Whole language theory embraces constructivism and postulates that language learning moves from the whole to the part, rather than building sub-skills to lead towards the higher abilities of comprehension, speaking, and writing. It also emphasises that comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing skills are interrelated, reinforcing each other in complex ways. Language acquisition is, therefore, an active process in which the learner focuses on cues and meaning and makes intelligent guesses.
Additional demands are placed upon teachers working in a technological environment incorporating constructivist and whole language theories. The development of teachers' professional skills must include new pedagogical as well as technical and management skills. Regarding the issue of teacher facilitation in such an environment, the teacher has a key role to play, but there could be a conflict between the aim to create an atmosphere for learner independence and the teacher's natural feelings of responsibility.
In order to avoid learners' negative perceptions, Stepp-Greany points out that it is especially important for the teacher to continue to address their needs, especially those of low-ability learners. Language teachers have been avid users of technology for a very long time.
Gramophone records were among the first technological aids to be used by language teachers in order to present students with recordings of native speakers' voices, and broadcasts from foreign radio stations were used to make recordings on reel-to-reel tape recorders.
Other examples of technological aids that have been used in the foreign language classroom include slide projectors, film-strip projectors, film projectors, videocassette recorders and DVD players. In the early s, integrated courses which were often described as multimedia courses began to appear. Examples of such courses are Ecouter et Parler consisting of a coursebook and tape recordings [39] and Deutsch durch die audiovisuelle Methode consisting of an illustrated coursebook, tape recordings and a film-strip — based on the Structuro-Global Audio-Visual method.
During the s and s standard microcomputers were incapable of producing sound and they had poor graphics capability. This represented a step backwards for language teachers, who by this time had become accustomed to using a range of different media in the foreign language classroom. The arrival of the multimedia computer in the early s was therefore a major breakthrough as it enabled text, images, sound and video to be combined in one device and the integration of the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing Davies Section 1.
Following the arrival of multimedia CALL, multimedia language centres began to appear in educational institutions. While multimedia facilities offer many opportunities for language learning with the integration of text, images, sound and video, these opportunities have often not been fully utilised. One of the main promises of CALL is the ability to individualise learning but, as with the language labs that were introduced into educational institutions in the s and s, the use of the facilities of multimedia centres has often devolved into rows of students all doing the same drills Davies Section 3.
Following a boom period in the s, language labs went rapidly into decline. Davies p. Managing a multimedia language centre requires not only staff who have a knowledge of foreign languages and language teaching methodology but also staff with technical know-how and budget management ability, as well as the ability to combine all these into creative ways of taking advantage of what the technology can offer.
A centre manager usually needs assistants for technical support, for managing resources and even the tutoring of students. Multimedia centres lend themselves to self-study and potentially self-directed learning, but this is often misunderstood.
The simple existence of a multimedia centre does not automatically lead to students learning independently. Significant investment of time is essential for materials development and creating an atmosphere conducive to self-study. In self-access learning, the focus is on developing learner autonomy through varying degrees of self-directed learning, as opposed to or as a complement to classroom learning.
In many centres learners access materials and manage their learning independently, but they also have access to staff for help. Many self-access centres are heavy users of technology and an increasing number of them are now offering online self-access learning opportunities.
Some centres have developed novel ways of supporting language learning outside the context of the language classroom also called 'language support' by developing software to monitor students' self-directed learning and by offering online support from teachers.
Centre managers and support staff may need to have new roles defined for them to support students' efforts at self-directed learning: v. The emergence of the World Wide Web now known simply as "the Web" in the early s marked a significant change in the use of communications technology for all computer users. Email and other forms of electronic communication had been in existence for many years, but the launch of Mosaic , the first graphical Web browser , in brought about a radical change in the ways in which we communicate electronically.
The launch of the Web in the public arena immediately began to attract the attention of language teachers. Many language teachers were already familiar with the concept of hypertext on stand-alone computers, which made it possible to set up non-sequential structured reading activities for language learners in which they could point to items of text or images on a page displayed on the computer screen and branch to any other pages, e.
The Web took this one stage further by creating a worldwide hypertext system that enabled the user to branch to different pages on computers anywhere in the world simply by pointing and clicking at a piece of text or an image. This opened up access to thousands of authentic foreign-language websites to teachers and students that could be used in a variety of ways.
A problem that arose, however, was that this could lead to a good deal of time-wasting if Web browsing was used in an unstructured way Davies pp. Other useful tools are produced by the same authors.
Sound and video quality was often poor, and interaction was slow. But now the Web has caught up. Sound and video are of high quality and interaction has improved tremendously, although this does depend on sufficient bandwidth being available, which is not always the case, especially in remote rural areas and developing countries.
Since the early s there has been a boom in the development of so-called Web 2. Contrary to popular opinion, Web 2. It also implies more interaction and sharing.
